Message from Executive Director

As Executive Director I am delighted to be leading and supporting an FE college membership organisation that articulates a powerful, influential and unique voice on behalf of its member colleges and more broadly on behalf of the learning and skills sector. Our second impact review 2010-11 reinforces the innovative and leading-edge contributions we have made with our member colleges and through strong partnerships.

The last year has seen our colleges ride out a tumultuous storm of policy changes and funding challenges, and 157 Group members are working collectively as a strong and innovative force dedicated to making a major impact on shaping the future policy and landscape of the sector. As our impact review details, we are committed to shaping policy, raising the reputation of the sector and contributing to high quality practice and collaboration to achieve good and best practice.

Even more importantly, our colleges work with other colleges and partners in the sector to put the voice of the learner first. We have been instrumental in persuading the government to ensure additional funds are in place so that learners can access suitable provision and progression. We have launched a range of learner voice publications including our Adult literacy: the voice of learners in FE colleges stories to demonstrate how our colleges effectively champion the learner and deliver high quality provision, pastoral care and a wealth of additional opportunities for learners.

157 Group member colleges are at the leading edge of innovation, employer engagement, and new business practices and have a huge passion to offer our services and experience for the benefit of the whole sector.

The 157 Group is going from strength to strength and I remain excited by the continual possibilities and talents of its members In partnership with our Chair, Marilyn Hawkins, we will continue to expand and enhance the good work of the 157 Group to provide even greater benefits and influence into the future.
