For immediate release: 13 June 2011
---BEGINS---
The 157 Group has congratulated four outstanding leaders at 157 Group member colleges who were recognised in the 2011 Queen's birthday honours list.
Ian Pryce, principal of Bedford college and vice-chair of the 157 Group, was appointed CBE, and Jean Hardy, chair of governors at West Nottinghamshire College, was appointed MBE. Joyce Amato, the European coordinator at Newham College, and John Marston, chairman of the estates and capital projects committee at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College, were also appointed MBE.
Lynne Sedgmore, executive director of the 157 Group, said, "We are delighted that leaders at four of our member colleges have been recognised in this way. I would like to pay a special tribute to Ian Pryce, our vice-chair, under whose leadership Bedford College has been rated as an outstanding further education institution, with all grade ones. West Nottinghamshire College also has grade ones across the board, and our congratulations go to Jean Hardy, the chair of governors, for her part in helping achieve that success."
Frank McLoughlin, principal of City and Islington College and chair of the 157 Group, said, "Given the importance of international students in the further education sector, we are pleased to see Joyce Amato's work at Newham College being recognised. Sound estate management underpins the success of all colleges, especially in the aftermath of the capital funding crisis, and so it is fitting too that John Marston should be recognised for his work at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.
"These honours highlight the important contribution that further education makes to our society and economy, and we are proud that representatives of our member colleges have been publicly acknowledged for their unstinting work."

---About the 157 Group---
The 157 Group represents 28 of the most influential colleges in the FE sector. It was formed in 2006 in response to paragraph 157 of Sir Andrew Foster's report on the future of further education colleges, in which he argued that principals of large successful colleges should play a greater role in policymaking.
