157 Group publishes strategic plan
The 157 Group has published its first strategic plan, developed in consultation with its members, 28 large and successful further education colleges in England.
Frank McLoughlin CBE, chair of the 157 Group and principal of City and Islington College, said, "Our strategic plan for 2010-12 outlines how we will play an important and influential role at a time when the further education and skills sector faces unprecedented challenges and upheaval in our external environments.
"We intend to work nationally, regionally and locally in rebuilding a strong, resilient and sustainable economic and social focus, in partnership with our various stakeholders in business, the government and the further education and skills sector. We will also play a substantial role in leading self improvement and capacity building in colleges, and in the simplification of the sector."
Lynne Sedgmore CBE, executive director of the 157 Group, said, "In order to fulfil the aims set out in our strategic plan, we will work closely with the new coalition government, regional government and funding agencies, and sector organisations to offer solutions for more efficient and effective ways of organising the funding of further education and skills.
"We will promote the reputation of further education colleges and encourage respect for the important work they do in delivering excellent quality and value-for-money teaching and learning. Protecting and enhancing frontline provision to learners is central to our strategy, and we believe that our ability to respond to businesses and get people into jobs will help return the British economy to strong and sustainable growth."
