157 Group new chair launches impact review and adult literacy learner voices
---BEGINS---
The 157 Group has published its 2010-11 impact review alongside a collection of eight learner voices highlighting the value of its member colleges' adult literacy work. The publications were launched at its annual reception hosted by Microsoft and attended by the Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, John Hayes MP.
Adult literacy: the voice of learners in FE comprises a collection of stories about eight adult learners' literacy journeys with a foreword by NIACE's Chief Executive David Hughes and introduction by new chair and principal of Barnet College, Marilyn Hawkins. Lynne Sedgmore CBE, executive director of the 157 Group, said, "We are delighted that John Hayes MP joined us to celebrate the achievements of the 157 Group over this last year, as well as to launch our new publications. We know that adult literacy is high on the government's agenda and is an issue which the Minister is particularly passionate about.
"Our impact review describes our successes over the past year and the extent to which we have met the aims we set out in our strategic plan. It is clear from our impact review that we continue to help to build a higher profile for the FE sector, even in such challenging times."
Marilyn Hawkins, chair of the 157 Group and principal of Barnet College, said, "I am delighted as the new chair of 157 Group to highlight our successes for the last year, and to showcase the inspirational and influential work our colleges do as evidenced in the Adult literacy learner voices publication. I am excited to lead the 157 Group into the future and will build on the fantastic work of my predecessor Frank McLoughlin CBE."

---About the 157 Group---
The 157 Group represents 27 of the most influential colleges in the FE sector. It was formed in 2006 in response to paragraph 157 of Sir Andrew Foster's report on the future of further education colleges, in which he argued that principals of large successful colleges should play a greater role in policymaking.
