Outstanding Further Education Leader Recognised in Birthday Honours List

The157 Group congratulates Dr Elaine McMahon, Principal of Hull College, and a member of the 157 Group, on receiving the honour of Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
This award raises the number of 157 members who have been awarded honours to more than a third of the group’s total.

Lynne Sedgmore 157 Executive Director said:

‘I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate Elaine on receiving her CBE. It is an honour that is extremely well deserved and an acknowledgment of her contribution to the world of education.’

‘The award pays testament to the remarkable leadership that Elaine and many other Further Education professionals provide within their colleges and the world of Learning and Skills. The CBE reflects the passion with which Elaine champions learning for all and acknowledges the significant impact that Further Education has upon society as a whole’

Elaine has played an invaluable role in transforming the lives of thousands of individuals in her role as Principal of Hull College, that impact will be felt by individuals and the community she serves for many years to come.’

2) It was formed in 2006 in response to paragraph 157 of Sir Andrew Foster’s report on the future of further education colleges in which he argued that principals of large successful colleges should play a greater role in policymaking.
